PROTEC commenced in the Mandeni / Sundumbili area in 1998. For learners and students from these areas, PROTEC provides the opportunity to acquire the necessary skills and qualifications to be educated to a means of reducing poverty in some of the homes that they come from. The branch is managed by Ishwar Naidoo, who has served 21 years with PROTEC.

Colin Naicker has been appointed as Branch Manager since November 2013 with 11 years of service with PROTEC. PROTEC Stanger is totally a Sappi Branch, formed in 1998. The Sappi Stanger Human Resource division (Stalwarts like Basil Naicker / Sydney Nair / Mike Truelock / Chris Gengan) together with community members (Juggo Govender, H.Sibisi – Principal of Tshelenkosi Secondary) started the branch. PROTEC Stanger enjoys high credibility in the community where it operates and it is perceived as a viable vehicle for improving the technological skills profile across the country, increasing the pool of skilled human resources and creating the potential for long term stability of our economic growth. Sappi has always been involved in our branch and the PROTEC classes are held at the Sappi KwaDukuza Resource Centre, located in central KwaDukuza. The PROTEC Stanger branch provides a holistic approach to skills development- learners are not only provided with education but also skills and guidance to build a solid career.

Marion Takis joined PROTEC as the Branch Manager in 2003 and Anna Maria Mkhize has been with PROTEC for 27 years. The branch commenced operations in 1991 and over the past 30 years, has uplifted and enriched the lives of the youth in the greater Tongaat community, equipping them with the knowledge, skills and values needed for meaningful and productive adult life. We have had 981 Post School Students and Alumni to date.

Umbogintwini is one of the oldest branches in KZN. It started in 1990 and is the only branch that is located in an industrial complex and the branch manager is Elzabe Matthews, who has given PROTEC an amazing 27 years service. The branch serves the broader Amanzimtoti area – KwaMakhutha, Lower Illovo and Umbumbulu. PROTEC provides learners from these areas with knowledge, skills and opportunities to become successful adults.

The Nelspruit Branch was established in the year 2000 for disadvantaged learners. It was a joint initiative between SAPPI, PROTEC and the Department of Education. The branch is manager by Dudu Agnes Mhlongo, who started with PROTEC in January 2019.
