THINGS ARE GOOD ENOUGH
Welcome to PROTEC!
PROTEC is a leading South African non-profit organization, operating nationally in the field of STEM education since 1982.
We run an excellence programme for disadvantaged learners that have the potential and the right attitude to change the course of their lives.
From Grade 10 to Grade 12, where we provide Saturday school and vacation classes in STEM subjects, career guidance, as well as teacher support and materials.
Post School Phase
We mentor our learners for 7 years post matric through their tertiary studies and into their first years in the working world as our PROTEC Alumni.
As young professionals in the workplace, our PROTEC Alumni give back to PROTEC as role models and life coaches, inspiring and motivating the next generation to fulfill their dreams.
Teacher Development Programme
Workshops, school support visits and materials for Mathematics, Physical Sciences and English teachers in the FET phase.
NAVIGATING THE FUTURE
WHAT MAKES US GREAT
PROTEC addresses a very relevant need in the South African economy. Very few previously disadvantaged scholars pass or even write matric Mathematics and Science (key gateway subjects) and therefore don’t have the opportunity to pursue careers in engineering, science and technology – skills so vital to our developing country.
A proud history (since 1982) of measurable results in the field of STEM education:
100% matric pass rate versus the national average pass rate of 78,2%
On average, 75% of PROTEC learners persue engineering, science or technology courses at tertiary level
+30 000 disadvantaged learners have successfully passed through the PROTEC programme and are now qualified Engineers, Doctors, Scientists, Educators and other professional people
Listed Top 5 NPO
PROTEC learners are from some of the most disadvantaged communities, they defy the odds in pursuit of their goals. Selected for their potential, values and talent these kids sign up for a tough programme that requires dedication, hard work and for them to sacrifice most of their free time on weekends and holidays.
Our learners are a family of committed youngsters who, through the Alumni Programme, go on to be role models to the next generations of PROTEC learners and value adding members of society
EFFECTIVENESS IS OUR MOTTO
Highly effective management and governance structure and controls
PROTEC provides full accountability to our donors and we are fully BEE compliant. Our long-standing relationships with many leading South African corporate companies bear testament to this.
