We’ve reached the end of a busy first quarter – the start of a new year is always an exciting time for PROTEC as our matric results come out, new programmes are launched, and our learners join our programmes around the country and begin their STEM education support classes and activities.
We have a lot to celebrate with our Class of 2023’s achievements and you can read all about it in our lead story. It never ceases to delight me that these dedicated young learners can overcome the odds of their often difficult circumstances to stand proudly alongside matriculants from the best private schools as their equals, having achieved their goals in STEM and other subjects.
As always, tribute must also go to the staff and tutors for the important role they play in supporting the learners – over a period of years – in their high school careers.
To the Class of 2023
As we honour our Class of 2023, we would like to remind you all to continue to fly the PROTEC flag, engage with your branches and projects, encourage learners who are coming after you, and give back just some of the opportunity you enjoyed throughout your years with us.
Tongaat Branch
Although we commemorated Marion Takis and her 22 years of excellent service to PROTEC on the occasion of her retirement with a special edition of PROTEC Connect in January, here we carry a story of the surprise party that was thrown for her and for Mark Tucker, a close friend of PROTEC’s and the Board Chairperson for PROTEC Tongaat for many years. Thankfully, while he retires as Tongaat Branch Board Chair, he will continue to serve on the Branch Management Committee so his strengths will not be lost to us.
Thank you both for your service – it truly is a powerful legacy for the branch and for PROTEC.
Nelspruit Branch
The profile in this edition is on the Nelspruit Branch and Agnes Mhlongo, Branch Manager. This branch urgently needs support to continue its excellent work in the Mbombela, Mpumalanga community. Please take a look at the encouraging profile and see where you can make a difference.
And more
Please keep reading to the end – there’s a lot to inspire in this newsletter and a lot of opportunities for you to get involved in our PROTEC world. You are welcome.
