Marion's PROTEC journey
I joined PROTEC in 2003 and over the last 21 years I’ve had the privilege of managing the Tongaat branch. I’ve learned so much from all involved at PROTEC – financial partners, educators, volunteers, parents, and most of all our learners – who have enriched my life in many ways.
I will forever be grateful for the opportunity to work with such committed and talented young people who taught me so much about resilience, grit and determination. To be a part of their journey from school through university and finally as successful and productive citizens in the workplace, is a privilege and absolute joy.
Some of my PROTEC highlights include:
- Participating in the National Technology Olympiad in Cape Town in 2005. Being placed second in Johannesburg in 2008 and first, second and third in the Regional Technology Olympiad in 2012.
- Establishing the uThongati ICT & Resource Centres in partnership with Tongaat Hulett & Altech/ UEC in 2008.
- Establishing the PROTEC INK Multimedia Centre in partnership with Altech/ UEC in 2010.
- Working with GGSA to design a Post School Programme incorporating a university preparation camp, a mentorship programme, workshops & feedback sessions, and a World of Work conference and awards day for graduates in 2010.
- Celebrating the branch’s 20th anniversary in 2011 and 30th anniversary in 2021.
- Cementing meaningful, long-lasting partnerships with our funders.
- Achieving over 90% bachelor pass rate for 10 years.
- Witnessing the graduation of hundreds of students and seeing them successfully placed in the workplace.
