PROTEC and BTE projects impact EC and NC schools

Two PROTEC projects funded by BTE Renewables launched at the start of 2023, in the Eastern Cape and Northern Cape, reaching both learners and teachers.

Eastern Cape

The BTE Renewables (Eastern Cape) Teacher and Learner Support Project is based in Sipho Camagu High School (Adelaide) and Lonwabo High School (Bedford). The project focuses on educational support for Grade 9 learners and teachers, and support for grades 10-12 teachers.
The aim in 2023 was to improve grades and stimulate the learners to take up STEM subjects in Grade 10. In-person support was provided for learners and teachers in Mathematics, Natural Sciences, Economic and Management Science, and English in school visits and vacation classes.
All participating teachers were given laptops, projectors, routers and data SIM cards that are loaded with monthly data and linked to PROTEC’s EduVod platform.
A culture of extra classes is taking root and the schools, parents and learners have welcomed the initiative.
Northern Cape

The BTE Renewables (Northern Cape) Teacher and Learner Support Project is based in Pella RK Primary School (feeder school in Pella), St Philomena (feeder school in Onseepkans) and Boesmanland Hoërskool (Pofadder). The project focuses on Grade 8 and Grade 10 learner and teacher educational support, and support for grades 10-12 teachers.
Through various in-person and online initiatives, the PROTEC team is providing support in STEM subjects for Grade 10 learners through to Grade 12, and it is working with Grade 8 learners with the aim of ensuring a minimum of 30% of the learners take up Pure Mathematics, Physical Sciences and Accounting when they reach Grade 10.
The teachers in this NC section of the PROTEC BTE Renewables Project were also provided with the resources that the EC teachers received.

Thank you to the BTE team
The BTE Renewables team has supported all activities. They have been hands-on and available to be involved when needed, which has made the work more meaningful and enjoyable for the PROTEC team.
