Message from Balan

Seldom has a year ended with such a tidal wave of activity – we’ve been creating plans and developing strategies for bigger programmes in the years to come, and tiring as it may be, it’s good news for this organisation, for our learners, and for our donors. We’re closing a year that has certainly seen challenges, but with triumphs coming out on top.

As I write, we are engaging with existing and potential new donors, working together to plan the expanded reach of our STEM education support to more regions, learners, and teachers. We will bring you the good news of these initiatives in the new year. PROTEC has capacity for nationwide reach, and as our donors see this potential and engage with us, we are able to deliver crucial value-adding support in STEM fields.

In this issue of PROTEC Connect, my primary aim is to express, once again, my deepest gratitude to our donors. You have embraced our vision and you’re seeing the fruit of your investment as our youngsters achieve STEM qualifications and embark on successful careers. Please take pride in the stories we share with you – the successes of individual and collective PROTEC learners are your successes too.

We share Tongaat Hulett’s celebration of 32 years as a PROTEC donor, Zutari’s visit to the PROTEC Zutari Learner Excellence Programme at Byletts Secondary School in Mooiplaas, Eastern Cape, BTE Renewables’ projects in the Eastern and Northern Cape, and we hear from a grateful PROTEC Tongaat learner who recognised the contribution that donors have made to his future success. We also introduce you to Colin Naicker, our PROTEC Stanger Branch Manager, who is celebrating 10 years with PROTEC. Our achievements would not be possible without the support of our donors.

Let this message and these good news stories continue to uplift you as you take your well-earned summer break. We wish you a wonderful festive season, happy days of rest and relaxation with family and friends, safe travels, and when it’s time to return, a vibrant start to 2024.
