Leeron says she didn’t so much as choose a career in finance, as finance chose her – even so, it is a career that she is embracing with great success. She says, “I grew up in Eldorado Park with my grandmother as a single parent, which meant my first priority was finding employment and earning a salary.” Things worked out well for her and Leeron is delighted. “This finance career path has empowered me consistently, and teaches me something new every day.”
Feeling it was time to move, Leeron then joined PROTEC as senior bookkeeper – and by her second year she was awarded a gift voucher for her hard work, in 2020 she was Employee of the Year, in 2021 she was appointed to her new position, and now she has registered at UNISA
to continue her studies in accounting. She says, “So much has happened since I joined PROTEC and I am grateful to be working for an organisation that recognises and appreciates the effort I make.”
She is passionate about education NPOs and has always been impressed and touched to see how much disadvantaged children benefit from programmes in the STEM environment. “It’s wonderful to see youngsters succeed, regardless of their backgrounds, when they display the drive and determination to work hard and embrace the opportunities they are given.”
Who has inspired you? “My grandmother. She might not be around anymore, but her honesty and hardworking ethics play a big role in my life.”
Leeron, whose life mantra is “actions speak louder than words” is very grateful to be in an environment where she contributes to giving back. “PROTEC has made me realise that getting out of your comfort zone is important – success is not a comfortable procedure and I thank God for strength during difficult times.”
Her advice to youngsters in the PROTEC programme is direct. “Grab the opportunity with both hands and put in all the effort you can to become who you want to be.”
